The RCMA420 AC/DC sensitive residual current monitoring device is used to monitor earthed systems (TN and TT systems) in which DC residual currents or residual currents can occur whose magnitude is permanently greater than zero. These are in particular loads with six-pulse bridge rectifiers or half-wave rectification with smoothing, e.g. converters, chargers, construction machinery with frequency-controlled drives. Currents in individual conductors can also be monitored with the RCMA420.

The pre-warning level (50...100 % of the set response value IΔn2) allows a distinction to be made between pre-warning and alarm. As the measured value is recorded via measuring current transformers, the device is virtually independent of the nominal voltage and current of the system.
