Can you imagine a large but almost emission-free construction site? SUNCAR HK AG, a start-up company from ETH Zurich, reduces disruptive emissions to a minimum with its electrification of construction machinery and makes the construction industry greener. SUNCAR is electrifying excavators and other construction machinery on behalf of major manufacturers such as Hitachi and Liebherr.
The battery-powered vehicles and machines from SUNCAR HK AG are successfully in use throughout Europe. For example, the ZE85 battery-powered electric excavator is being successfully operated on a zero-emission construction site in Norway.
The ZE85, an electric excavator from HITACHI, operates with zero emissions and low noise levels. It can be operated in both battery and cable mode. Thanks to its onboard charger, the excavator is charged within a very short time. It is important for all battery-powered machines that safety is guaranteed in the high-voltage system and that protection against overvoltage is provided. The monitoring and reporting of the insulation level must also work.
Our solution
SUNCAR HK AG asked us to provide a security system. As a subsidiary of Bender GmbH& Co. KG, we are specialized in this field. We were able to find out very quickly where we could support SUNCAR. Constant monitoring of the voltage and insulation resistance must be guaranteed.
An isometer and a voltage relay are used. The multifunctional voltage relay, VMD421H, permanently monitors the voltage and switches the system on or off as required. The IR155-4203 isometer monitors and measures the insulation resistance of the battery-powered vehicle.
These two products now ensure the safety of SUNCAR HK AG's battery-powered construction machinery.
What is the benefit for our customer?
Simple, reliable and standard-compliant monitoring of the systems. Thanks to already parameterized values, nothing stands in the way of the green construction machine, such as the ZE85, in terms of safety. The excavator operators can therefore concentrate fully on carrying out their work.
The goals of ensuring safety and monitoring the systems have been achieved.
