Subsidies for charging stations

Did you know that only just under two percent of vehicles in Switzerland are electric? However, the number of electric vehicles has almost doubled in the last two years.

In its Electric Mobility Roadmap 2025, the federal government has set three targets:

  1. 50% of new registrations are electric vehicles
  2. 20,000 universally accessible charging stations
  3. user-friendly and grid-friendly charging - at home, at work and on the move.

The cantons want to achieve these goals by further expanding the support program.

We at Optec are committed to achieving these goals and support anyone interested in a support program.

Support from the federal government, canton, municipality, energy suppliers and foundations

In addition to future uniform federal funding, there are also other substantial funding contributions from various sources and in different forms.

Purchase premium

At national level, electric cars are exempt from motor vehicle tax of 4% of the vehicle value when purchased. In addition, some cantons, municipalities and energy suppliers support the purchase of a new electric vehicle with a subsidy of up to CHF 5,000.

Vehicle tax

Most cantons grant vehicle tax rebates and reductions of 25 to 75 %. In a few cantons (e.g. ZH, SO and NI), electric cars are completely exempt from vehicle tax.

Installation of charging stations

In many municipalities and cities, up to 60% of the costs for the basic installation are granted in the form of subsidies. This could be for the development of an underground parking garage with the necessary power lines, for example. Many municipalities and energy supply companies also offer support in the form of subsidies for network-compatible charging stations with intelligent load management. Depending on the project, five-figure support amounts are possible.

Charging infrastructure planning

A total of CHF 4 million has been allocated for the planning of charging infrastructure projects as part of a new federal funding program. The relevant studies must be completed by the end of October 2023.
